Screen enclosures, rescreening and repair in Longwood

Longwood’s city limits are compact, and mailing addresses don’t follow them exactly, so confirming jurisdiction is the first step. The city’s historic core adds another consideration for street-facing work, and yards under big trees bring their own enclosure questions.

Planned coverage for this demo. A real business must confirm the communities it serves before launch.

City of Longwood or Seminole County?

Inside city limits, the City of Longwood’s Building Division takes permit applications, reviews plans and performs inspections. A Longwood mailing address outside those limits falls under Seminole County’s building division. We confirm which applies before planning any permitted work.

The historic district

The Longwood Historic District near the city’s original downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If your home is in or near it, ask the city whether exterior changes such as a street-facing screened porch need design review before a permit. Backyard projects are less likely to be affected, but it’s worth asking.

Enclosures under mature trees

Where large trees overhang a pool or lanai, the enclosure deals with more leaves, pollen, sap and the occasional falling limb. A few practical points:

  • Leaf litter sitting on a screen roof holds moisture and stains screen; gentle rinsing from inside helps, and nobody should climb on the roof to clear it.
  • Dead or overhanging limbs are best handled by a qualified tree service before storm season; they are a common source of torn roof panels and bent members.
  • Some cities require permits to remove certain trees, so check before planning any removal around an enclosure.
  • If a limb has already come down on the frame, keep clear of the damaged area and request an assessment.

Questions

Longwood questions

Can you clean leaves off my enclosure roof?

Please don’t climb on it, and we don’t recommend anyone walking on screen roofs. Rinsing from inside and trimming overhanging limbs are safer ways to manage leaf litter.

Does a backyard pool enclosure near the historic district need design review?

Backyard work is less likely to be affected than street-facing work, but ask the city if your property is in or near the district.
